What to do when you get an alert
- Read the alert first. It tells you what kind it is — an emergency, a scam warning, or a missed reminder — and a short, safe summary of what happened. It never contains their words.
- Emergency alert: call your loved one now. The alert went to every connected family member and our safety supervisor at the same moment. If you cannot reach your loved one within a few minutes, call a neighbour or the local emergency number — 112 in India, 999 in the UAE. Do not wait for the app.
- Scam warning: no rush, but do follow up today. AskSathi already gave your loved one a calm warning and did not let the conversation continue down the scam's path. When you call, avoid blame — "that message you got was a trick, I get them too" works better than "why did you click that?".
- Missed reminder: usually nothing. A nap, a walk, a phone left in another room. If it repeats several days running, the dashboard's rhythm view will show the pattern — that is worth a visit or a call.
- Afterwards, tell the dashboard. When the situation is handled, the supervisor closes the case; you will see it move into the resolved pile. If your loved one tells AskSathi "I am okay", the family is told that too — and AskSathi never claims someone was told unless the message truly went through.
How your loved one's privacy works (the honest version)
AskSathi is built so your loved one can trust it like a diary, and you can trust it like a smoke alarm. Those needs pull in opposite directions; here is exactly where the line sits.
- What you see: short summaries written for family, the wellbeing signal with its reasons, alerts with safe summaries, reminders and whether they were confirmed, and the topics your loved one has been talking about.
- What you never see: their actual messages and conversations, the questions they asked, and anything they asked AskSathi to remember for them. This is not a setting — the family dashboard has no way to fetch those, at all.
- There is no transcript to request: the exact messages and voice notes are not kept. They are deleted as soon as the conversation ends, so there is nothing to release later — to you or to anyone. What remains is only the summaries and alerts above.
- Deletion is theirs: your loved one can say "delete my data" in the chat at any time, and it happens the same day through one audited path, with a receipt.
The full legal documents are always public: terms · privacy notice · data security.
Getting your loved one started well
- Send the link with a voice note of your own. "Ma, I set up a helper for you on Telegram — tap this and say hello" goes much further than a bare link.
- Let them say yes themselves. AskSathi asks your loved one for their own consent, in their language, before anything starts. Do not tap it for them — it matters that the yes is theirs.
- Seed one reminder and one question. A daily walking reminder and "ask it about the pension office" is enough for the habit to take hold.
- Voice notes work. Many older people prefer talking to typing — AskSathi listens to voice messages and answers in their language.
